Understanding Incarceration Trauma: Implications for Re-Entry Service Provision

Action Learning Workshop

Tuesday, March 15, 2022 • 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. PT

Register Now

This workshop is part of the CARE TA Center’s Anti-Racism in California’s Crisis Continuum of CARE: Action Learning Workshops series. Each 3-hour workshop will offer a 60-minute pre-recorded presentation combined with facilitated discussion and action planning. Instructors will guide participants through a process to create individualized plans for implementation. Moving from learning to action, participants will gain competencies and walk away with skills, templates, tools, and resources to apply to their daily work in the crisis continuum of care.

Overview:

This workshop aims to increase awareness among re-entry service providers about the traumatizing impacts of incarceration. Re-entry services that are trauma informed, especially as they relate to the traumatic impacts of incarceration, will be better situated to understand, assess, and meet the needs of clients in meaningful and accessible ways. This workshop will include live viewing of a presentation (originally part of the CARE TA Center virtual conference in June 2021) and facilitated discussion focused on applying insights from the presentation to your daily work. Action planning will focus on how to identify signs and symptoms of incarceration trauma, resources to assess for trauma and integrate this into service planning/provision for re-entry clients, and understanding some of the common challenges that individuals who were formerly incarcerated experience when accessing re-entry services.
