Black and Latinx transgender youth had similar odds of mental health symptoms to White transgender youth but higher odds of mental health symptoms than cisgender Back and Latinx youth. Of concern, however, was that the bullying, harassment and victimization they experienced in school settings was not moderated by protective behaviors of adults as it was for White transgender youth. The study shows the importance of using an intersectional lens, especially with regards to stigma, resilience capacity and the local environment.
