There is limited research on the number of LGBTQ youth living in foster care or waiting to be adopted from foster care. But, Human Rights Campaign points out that the research that is available has consistently shown that “LGBTQ youth are over represented among the foster care population.” These at-risk youth face bias and discrimination within their daily lives and the foster care system. All LGBTQ youth need care, support and love from their friends, school, community and family. If these youth are in the foster care system, they need foster parents and/or adoptive parents who will welcome them into their homes for who they are and support them as they grow.
